Chestnut lath fence with stunning view…

Sweet chestnut is an amazing wood to work with. The wood is full of tannins which prevent it from rotting thus making it ideal for outdoor uses without the need for chemicals. The tannins readily react with steel creating a blue stain which you can see on the tools and on the skin of my fingers as I write this.

Using a froe, the laths and stakes are cleft down, the final touches are then done with the billhook.
