Instructor: Jeremy Weiss

Location: Velwell Orchard, near Dartington, South Devon

Cost: £110

Times: First day 10:00 – 17:00, second day 07:00 – 12:00.

This is a thorough two-day introduction to mowing with the scythe for beginners.

This course will introduce you to the correct use of the scythe. You’ll learn how to set it up properly according to your body’s proportions, how to peen and hone the blade, and mow using universal principals of motion so that you can mow easily and efficiently without stressing your body. We will also discuss meadow and lawn management for the benefit of wildlife and humans, how to make hay, and the use of grass cuttings as mulch. I’ll also show you some warm ups and stretches which will help you to keep your body in tip top shape for fluent mowing.

You can bring you own scythe and honing and peening equipment if you have them or you can purchase these from Simon Fairlie Scythes or Scythe Cymru. We will be happy to discuss options with you before you order. If you would prefer, you can borrow our equipment instead. Please let us know if you wish to do this.

In order to ensure a quality experience for all, we only take four people on this course. FREE CAMPING is included! Please let us know if you intend to stay over.
