We make quality gates using cleft chestnut from a coppice on Dartmoor. Sweet chestnut needs no treatment whatsoever and wont rot for many many years thanks to high levels of tannins in the wood. All the work is done using hand tools and the tennons are pinned using oak pegs. We use copper boat nails and roves to attach pickets, pales and rails. See here for more details.

Gate making is very enjoyable especially when it’s too wet to work on hedges or walls. All our gates are made bespoke so we can cater for any size or style, or design something especially to fit your wishes. Get in touch if you’d like to see our full catalogue.
